Russia and the West: Piercing the Fog of Hysteria — Pepe Escobar

Backgrounder. Pepe sees false flag drawing Russia in as likely, resulting in sanctions.

The US plan is to encircle Russia (and China) militarily and bankrupt them economically through imposition of sanctions, starting with Russia. Because this worked so well with Iran? And neither the Russian nor the Chinese military are comparable to Saddam's. So get out the popcorn. This could get interesting. Meanwhile, the four horsemen — war, famine (climate change), pestilence (pandemic), and death — are mounted up ready to ride. And Americans are concerned with some "inflation"?

False flag?
Aren't the Ukies itching to go?

Yes but they Ukies don't want to take the blame for it, and they won't go without the OK of the US anyway. The US want to sanction Russia as part of a hegemonic strategy that prefers non-military means, so it fits the playbook. The US assumes that since this worked" in the case of the USSR it will work on Russia and China too. The military threat is mostly to get Russia and China spending on military and neglecting domestic priority. This is intended to lead to a color revolution.

North Korea neglects domestic policy in favor of their military, and no color revolution there. Despite their struggling economy, NK is able to leverage its nuclear deterrent.

Russia can't match the GDP of Europe, so why would it go the route of a conventional military buildup?

Without MAD, we are all dead. With MAD, conventional skirmishes are good for PR purposes i.e. dividing Europe from trade with Asia. Strategically, defensively, it means nothing. Russia can't be chipped away at. Their biggest internal threat is the radicalized Muslim population. And China will help them.

Europe is being set up as the biggest loser. They have no one to blame but themselves.

It’s almost unbelievable….

Some of them seem to be figuring this out: US bears no burden, Europe takes the hit.
