The Strange Death of Liberal Russia – Part II (Usually I am more in a agreement with Paul Robinson than not, but in this post he appears to overly disregard, first, the trauma of liberalization after the collapse of the USSR, leading to the rise of the oligarchs and the virtual destruction of the Russian economy and society, and secondly, he appears to under-appreciate the fundamental conservatism of the Russian people, who regard liberalism (Western values) as morally degenerate—as do many American conservatives. Finally, with NATO encroachment, the bombing of Serbia, and the Maidan in Ukraine, as well as the attempts of the US and allies to influence Russian politics, liberalism effectively withered away and died in Russia. It's over. The remaining liberals have emigrated. I would not say this is "strange" at all. It was predictable.)
