Flash — Stephanie Kelton on All In with Chris Hayes on MSNBC tonight Tuesday 10/8

All In Agenda: GOP delusion over who’s winning the budget battle

Tuesday night on All In with Chris Hayes: Republicans still think they’re winning the budget battles, but recent polls say otherwise. A new Washington Post/ABC News poll found the GOP is not convincing the American people that shutting down the government is a good idea – in fact, 70% of Americans disapprove of the way Republicans in the House are handling the crisis, and 51% of those disapprove “strongly.” Democrats had the advantage, although their numbers weren’t stellar either, with 61% disapproving of Congressional Democrats’ actions on the crisis and 51% disapproving of President Obama. Robert Costa, editor for the National Review, and Sen. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, Member of the Senate Budget Committee, will join Chris Hayes to talk about the GOP’s disconnect from reality.
Plus: All In will introduce a lesser-known member of the GOP suicide caucus, Rep. Ted Yoho. The Congressman from Florida thinks defaulting on the debt ceiling is a good idea that “would bring stability to the world markets.” Charles Pierce, Writer at Large for Esquire magazine, will join Chris to talk about the man he referred to as a “Wingnut Congresscritter.”

Chris Hayes will also talk with the Co-Founder of Reddit, Alexis Ohanian, about the site that calls itself “the Internet’s front page.” The content on Reddit ranges “from world politics to ‘My Little Pony,” says Ohanian, but also received a lot of attention for misidentifying a suspect after the Boston bombing in April.

Later, Stephanie Kelton, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics at the University of Missouri – Kansas City and Editor in Chief of the blog New Economic Perspectives, Scott Lilly, Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, and David Stockman, Director of the Office of Management and Budget under President Reagan, will join Chris to talk about what the debt ceiling actually is and what to expect as the deadline to raise it approaches.

Announcement: Stephanie Kelton on UP with Chris Hayes Sat AM

Stephanie Kelton will be appearing on UP with Chris Hayes on MSNBC this Saturday January 12, 2013 at 8:00 AM Eastern.

I hope Stephanie reminds Chris to refresh his memory on the excellent MMT summary by Bill Mitchell that appeared in The Nation, so he has the MMT background.

This article appeared in the April 4, 2011 edition of The Nation.

The Orthodox Economic "Mafia"

Randall Wray passes on this piece by Chris Hayes (of The Nation and MSNBC) on the challenge mounted by heterodox economists to the neoclassical consensus.

This is potentially a big deal. Chris Hayes is a major player at The Nation and an up-and-comer at MSNBC. He is going to be on the national stage for a long time, and he is on the way to getting it. The Nation has already run an article by Bill Mitchell.
