So, you did not believe in the power of the Deep State? Well, you may change your mind after reading a report in The New York Times that the powers-that-be in Washington are about to deep-six the 6,700-page Senate report based on original CIA cables and other documents that not only to depict savage torture practices during the George W. Bush era, but also show that CIA officials consistently lied in claiming these heinous practices yielded information of any intelligence value.

In what amounts to a gross violation of the public trust – not to mention his oath to the Constitution – Senate Intelligence Committee chair, Sen. Richard Burr, R-North Carolina, has recalled all copies and will put the report under lock and key for good – dismissing it as a “footnote in history.”

The only hope for those of us who want to see torturers held accountable is that some patriotic truthteller has – or will – put the report on a thumb drive and send it off to WikiLeaks or some other brave outlet that will publish it....

Famous last words: "It can't happen here." It already has.

It should also extend to the leaders, political, military and intel, of US vassals involved, and Tony Blair in particular.

I would also like to see Zbigniew Brzezinski in the dock of proposing arming radical Islamists in the Carter Administration, and Jimmy Carter should answer, too. And Bill Clinton and his cohorts, including NATO cohorts that signed on, for unilaterally attacking Serbia.

 Those found guilty should be accorded the punishment accorded the Nazis and the Japanese for their war crimes.

The damage attributable to minor players accuse of war crimes like Milosevic, Hussein, Gaddafi and Assad pales in comparison with that the above people have wrought.

The Commander of the U.S. Pacific Command has identifued climate change as the most likely threat to the Pacific region, as ThinkProgress reported:

Admiral Samuel J. Locklear III, commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, gave a striking answer when asked about the greatest threat the region faces: climate change.

Locklear told the Boston Globe, the changing climate “is probably the most likely thing that is going to happen . . . that will cripple the security environment, probably more likely than the other scenarios we all often talk about.”

Among the issues that the Admiral cited as most concerning was the possibility that rising sea-levels result in the disappearance of whole countries, producing influxes of ‘climate refugees‘ in neighboring states.....
