Stratfor — Trump risks a trade war with China that cannot be won

Forecast
  • Protectionist trade policies toward China would do little to achieve the incoming U.S. administration’s stated goal of reviving U.S. manufacturing.
  • Beijing would use various means — in particular, harassing U.S. companies that operate in China and depend on the country’s growing consumer market — to retaliate against protectionism in the United States.
  • President-elect Donald Trump’s administration will likely focus on curbing Chinese steel imports, a policy that could boost U.S. manufacturing without doing much damage to China’s economy.

Is Stratfor ever right about anything? I remember they predicted hyperinflation when the Fed engaged in its extraordinary monetary measures during the crisis. #Idiots

Who cares if we have a trade war. We have enough cheap garbage already. We need roads and bridges and schools and health care and alternative energy and basic science and research and a million other things that China cannot supply us with.

I was gonna comment with this earlier but was logged into another account but you took the words right out of my mouth, Mike:

"Honestly, what would be the big deal? It's like how people always fret about the US losing its reserve status. I am sure the US would adjust eventually to the changes."

The only thing Stratfor has going for it is its name. The name just oozes geopolitics. It also strangely reminds me of that men's cologne "Blue Stratos." Ah... those were the days ;)

Re. the infrastructure, and considering all the crooks and liars Trump has surrounded himself with, infrastructure projects most probably thru tax incentives to Trump's bigly brown-nosers.

In one of these postings one day, I'll recount my NASA anecdote -- how NASA's work directly benefited my daughter's health when she was just 6-months-old :)

Greek the "Bridge Commissions" and "Port Authority" are full of cronyism, nepotism, Title 7, Title 9, patronage people too so maybe let's see how it goes...

A PPP with a target ROI can facilitate discipline that avoids those types of problems...
