The failure of Democracy is my favorite topic but the well has run dry. I think we neee distance from elections for awhile because otherwise this is such fertile ground too.

Democracy is an idea that has not yet been tried. It functioned for a while in ancient Athens but only because citizens had the leisure to participate in debate owing to the slave-based economy.

Technology is just beginning to make real democracy possible — government of the people, by the people and for the people — as participatory democracy where issues are decided based on referenda rather than representation, which democratic republicanism that has been controlled historically by a ruling class.

However, direct democracy requires a context of sufficient culture and education to obviate it falling into rabble-rousing and mob rule.

The public heavily favors Medicare for all but it has no real voice in the political process to affect specific issues directly.
