India Punchline
Battle for Mariupol is ending (contains a reference to an article in a US military blog repeating the US analysis of the war and Ukrainian propaganda. This analysis contradicts itself. It's saving grace is the conclusion that the Ukrainian force has a meagre chance in Donbass. Interestingly, it pretty much confirms that US military personnel are directly involved in the fighting a "foreign volunteers" and that the operation is being run out of the Pentagon.)

The Trita Parsi article is dynamite. In fact, I'm surprised MSNBC published it.

Very good catch.

Incidentally, one could see the same thing last December with UN Resolution A/76/460 DR 1 (titled “Combating Glorification of Nazism, Neo-Nazism and other Practices that Contribute to Fueling Contemporary Forms of Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance”).

The US and Ukraine voted against the Resolution. Pretty much all of Europe (plus Japan, Korea, Canada, Oz and NZ) abstained, .

The Global South (plus India, China, Russia and a couple of small European countries) voted for the Resolution.

Magpie,

It is a sickness something is rotten at the core of the Western leadership.

They use far right factions to destabilise different regions around the world. Just look at who the funded and armed to the teeth in the Middle East.

Then potty train the voters in the West by calling them moderates. We now have in the English language moderate Jihadists and moderate nazis.

The journalists over the last 70 years have completely ruined the profession. I don't know how they sleep at night they must know what they're doing.

The guy who told the truth Assange has been treated like vermin. Locked up for years now without a trial.

It's sick they are a bunch of psychopaths.

“And then there is the “global war on terror,” which has destabilized much of the Middle East and North Africa while killing more than twice as many people as the terrorists themselves have murdered since the Sept. 11 attacks.”

Should have been 5 orders of magnitude more based on historic precedent… too late now…

Interesting chart by Robert P Balan

He says ......

" inflation is a severely lagged by-product of US GDP growth, which in turn, is a by-product of Fiscal Debt Issuance. CPI changes, by itself, lag changes in GDP by a good 5 quarters. I worked in Investment Banks for more than 40 years -- these banks never take inflation as a factor in their lending process. "

while killing more than twice as many people as the terrorists themselves have murdered since the Sept. 11 attacks

Note how Matt uses "killed" in the first case and "murdered" in the next case. Next, he'll be saying "homicide bombers" instead of "suicide bombers".

It's subtle, but it doesn't go unnoticed.

In other news,

Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren demands a criminal investigation into Jared Kushner getting $2billion investment from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman six months after leaving the White House

Yeah, the same people who brought down your towers, who you called your allies in the war on terror, were pulling the strings on your presidency.

Further to my comment,

7,000 troops died in the Post-9/11 wars. A staggering 30,000 died by suicide

The number of veterans and service members who have died by suicide since Sept. 11, 2001 is more than quadruple the number who have died in Post-9/11 wars, according to a new study released on Monday by Brown University’s Costs of War project. The study estimates that 7,057 service members have been killed in post-9/11 war operations, while 30,177 active duty service members and veterans have died by suicide.

The 35-page study breaks down how traumatic brain injuries, better medical treatment of wartime injuries, an indifferent civilian public, and the protracted length of the post-9/11 wars have all piled on each other to drive the rate of military and veteran suicide numbers past civilian counterparts. The average suicide rate for post-9/11 veterans between 18 to 34 was 32.3 per 100,000 between 2005 and 2017, but it rose to 45.9 per 100,000 in 2018. That’s about 2.5 times the suicide rate of that of the general population, which is 18 per 100,000.

The Unseen Scars of Those Who Kill Via Remote Control

Capt. Kevin Larson was one of the best drone pilots in the U.S. Air Force. Yet as the job weighed on him and untold others, the military failed to recognize its full impact. After a drug arrest and court martial, he fled into the California wilderness.

At the end of the article, he kills himself as he's pursued by drones:

Perhaps he was planning to say more, but as he spoke into the phone camera, he was interrupted by an angry buzzing, like a swarm of bees.

“I can hear the drones,” he said. “They’re looking for me.”

Had they found him alive, his pursuers would have been able to tell him this: In the end, the Air Force had decided not to sentence him to prison, only to dismissal.

But now, just as Captain Larson had done countless times, the officers could only study the drone footage and parse the evidence — slumped behind the boulder, shot with his own assault rifle — of another unintended death.
