Ramanan — Evan Soltas Is The Future Greg Mankiw

Ramanan beat me to it. I actually started writing something like this yesterday buy didn't have time. Beats me why anyone is listening to, or economists engaging with an undergrad in economics, even though he is studying at Princeton and is obviously a bright kid with a future. I thought he had promise when he started out, but he has seen the promised land from the top of the mountain, his perch at The Washington Post, and it is a chair at Harvard. Sell out.

Brad DeLong — Malinvestment In The Recession?

I think Daniel Kuehn mistakes Evan Soltas's point. Soltas is arguing not against the fundamentalist Austrians and their claims that the depression is caused by previous malinvestment in the boom. Soltas is arguing against the Martin Feldstein's who claim that interest rates need to be high during the bust in order to guard against additional malinvestments committed then.

Evan Soltas — How to Think About Malinvestment

Evan schools Larry Summers and Austrian economists about "malinvestment" in a recession owing to low interest rates. NOT.

Steve Randy Waldman — Hidden profits, hidden rents

Evan Soltas attracts the attention of SRW with his analysis of profits and rents.
Evan Soltas has a very good post on the explosive growth of the financial industry since the end of World War II. As a share of GDP, in terms of profits, and in terms of payroll, postwar America has been truly been a golden age for bankers, brokers, and fund managers.
In fact, it’s even better than it looks!

Evan Soltas — Economics Is Platinum: What the Trillion-Dollar Coin Teaches Us

A few mistakes, like the use of monetary policy, but overall pretty good for a teenager. The only places he goes wrong is when he has listened to the economists.

Paul Krugman — A Double Shot of Misunderstanding

Paul Krugman puts on his white hat and attacks the debt and deficit posse.
