Brad Reed — Republican Civil War Officially Declared: GOP Delegates Openly Plot to Overthrow Trump at Convention

With Donald Trump’s poll numbers sinking into a death spiral, dozens of Republican delegates are now openly plotting a coup to overthrow him at this year’s Republican National Convention.
The Washington Post has scored an interview with GOP delegates who are leading the effort to allow delegates to vote their consciences at this year’s RNC so they can choose someone other than Trump. The rule change would allow delegates to unbind themselves based on “personal or religious conscience.”
Kendal Unruh, a Republican delegate from Colorado, says that their plan is to stop Trump from becoming the nominee first and then hoping the delegates can then pick a consensus non-Trump candidate afterward.
“This literally is an ‘Anybody but Trump’ movement,” he told the Post. “Nobody has any idea who is going to step in and be the nominee, but we’re not worried about that. We’re just doing that job to make sure that he’s not the face of our party.”…
Gonna get ugly?

The logic may in fact be backwards. The GOP's real fear may not be that Trump's going to lose, but that he could win. He won't, but they may think he can, and so the coup. For the GOP establishment, they'd prefer Killary to Trump: a case of the warmongers appreciation society.

In any case, if this succeeds, this would surely spell the end of the Republican Party. A coup would shatter the party into an untold number of warring factions. All that's needed is for the Democratic Party to do likewise. Some sensible policies could result. We can only hope the Republicans can rid themselves of the neoconservatives and return to the semi-sane years and policies of the great Gerald Ford.

"Semi-sane", with occasional bits of insanity:

Even more proof of the greatness of Gerald Ford: who else could have so publicly warned of the disastrous Alan Greenspan by insisting on Ayn Rand's presence? The warning it seems was too subtle for the American public.

Nebris, please explain yourself.

There are only two choices available: the narcissistic loudmouthed Trump or the neoconservative warmonger Hillary Clinton, unless you vote for Jill Stein or Gary Johnson, both much better than that offered by the two major parties.

Do you believe Hillary Clinton would make a less bellicose president? Almost every member of her foreign policy team is a neoconservative, who are on record in demanding attacking Iran and toppling Assad in Syria, which means empowering ISIS. Hillary Clinton's foreign policy regarding Russia and China is the very definition of lunacy. She's proud of the coup against the democratically elected government in Honduras. Her Libya strategy has left a country in ruins, much of it in the hands of Al Qaeda and groups either affiliated to ISIS or claiming to be ISIS.

Trump is a vile creature, but he may not lead to world war three. Unfortunately, Jill Stein will not be the next president. It'll be Trump or Clinton.

Nebris Explains: Fuck Hillz, too, warmongering Neo-Liberal cunt. At least The Donald won his nomination fair and square. The GOP base – and yes, they are fucking nuts – chose quite clearly him and now these Repuke Establishment fuckers think they can thwart the ravening beast they created over the past half century without dire consequence? That is the source of my laughter, to enjoy watching them be devoured by their own monster.

As for 'Crooked Hillary'...I believe her defeat would be best for The Republic in the medium term. Trump will almost certainly wreck the GOP, but her defeat would wreck the Dem Establishment and maybe – just maybe – Bernie could salvage something worthwhile out of that wreckage.

But hey, I'm just a cockeyed optimist....

Trump must be a threat to Republican profits - whether those profits are justified or not - to arose such ire.

I agree the Repugs have created a beast they probably can't ride. "Those who sow the wind ..."

Nebris, your views match a good number of people here. You'll feel quite at home.
