Led Zeppelin, Spirit - Taurus, Trail Today.

Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (from Led Zeppelin) are going to court today after being accused of plagiarism a guitar melody from the song, Taurus, by the the band Spirit, and using it on their Stairway To Heaven.

Have a listen to the song, Taurus, an instrumental, which I think is better than 'Stairway...' and the guitar work is indeed remarkably similar.

Taurus by Spirit.

I was born in the same hospital ward as Jimmy Page...A rather slim 'claim to fame' though!

bah... So there are similarities, big deal. Tell that to Chuck Berry and Little Richard. If Stairway to Heaven wasn't an iconic (money making) song there would be none of this. These songs may have strong similarities out of the gate, but they diverge so radically that to claim one is direct rip-off is stretching it.

The time to have brought this lawsuit was 1971 when Randy California first heard STH.

The guy who should be sued is Lou Adler.

Spirit was invited to open for Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock.[9] However, band manager/producer Lou Adler—who, ironically, had been one of the founders of the rock festival movement two years earlier, as a partner (with Mamas & Papas lynchpin John Phillips) in the Monterey Pop Festival, where Hendrix premiered in the U.S.—opposed it because the band was busy promoting their latest album, Clear.
