NSNBC News — CIA Prepping for Possible Cyber Strike Against Russia

Two former CIA officers who worked on Russia told NBC News that there is a long history of the White House asking the CIA to come up with options for covert action against Russia, including cyber options — only to abandon the idea.

"We've always hesitated to use a lot of stuff we've had, but that's a political decision," one former officer said. "If someone has decided, `We've had enough of the Russians,' there is a lot we can do. Step one is to remind them that two can play at this game and we have a lot of stuff. Step two, if you are looking to mess with their networks, we can do that, but then the issue becomes, they can do worse things to us in other places."…
Definitely should think carefully about getting in an escalation game in cyberspace. Count on the adversary having this gamed out already.

This is just silly. Another example of your tax dollars at work.

Plays into the campaign narrative and gives it urgency and a basis in reality.

The consequences tho...who knows

After watching how the American media is doing Trump I would like to know who would believe anything they heard in the media?

Obviously, the Russians run rings around us in cyberspace wars if the Clinton&Media machine is to be believed. They captured our and their secrets, they did this, they did that, they’re awful culprits.

Maybe they’re just better. [For the record, I don’t buy the ‘Putin did this’ story.]

Why didn’t the NSA capture this? We pay them tens of billions a year because they claim they can.
If the CIA is so good, why didn’t they see the packet stream from US govt servers to a Russian server 2500 miles east of Moscow?

I wish I could find the story I read this past week about the guy who owns that server east of Moscow. Someone found him and interviewed him. He said the FBI hasn’t bothered to contact him, even though he offered, and that his customers aren’t Russians.

Count on the adversary having this gamed out already.

No shit. Starting with their recently announced electromagnetic ’death ray’ weapons we have no equal to. They could take out our TELCOM satellites in, oh, I dunno’, a nanosecond? Just wave those lasers across the sky, especially if they wave them from north of the Arctic circle. No military GPS, No operational communications for any aspect of the military reliant upon those satellites to triangulate comms for them. Network shutdown across all the US and any countries that use our servers. Only the hard-wired internally could stay up. Backup load to other servers internationally needs trunk lines…that aren’t controlled by any satellite-based or reliant comms, even though the whole idea of the net was to hard-wire it to keep it up even in nuclear war.
