Pepe Escobar — Why the New Silk Roads Terrify Washington

Wondering why HRC is charging Russia with "aggression" in Syria when Russia was invited in by the current sovereign whereas the US is in Syria illegally and is itself the aggressor. Similarly, why is Ash Carter charing China with "aggression" in developing reefs in the South China Sea in waters that China as claimed historically, while the US sits on the other side of the Pacific Ocean?

Pepe Escobar explains.

Tom, OT.

There are political ads that come on this site, left panel, blasting. Volume up full blast. Even after you mute them, can't get rid of them because they are truncated vertically.

I know you have control over the ads but I think you can complain about the Volume ON toggle, can't you? Really annoying.

I know you have NO control . .

China and Germany banned Internal Combustion Engines this week and no one noticed. This is the biggest thing for humanity since horses were turned into glue on a massive scale.
THE END OF ERA. And no one is talking about it. I'm on the wrong planet this year.

A quick search seems to indicate that one legislative body in Germany passed a non binding resolution to ban internal combustion engines in Germany by 2030. Thanks for the misinformation, Ryan!

Ryan Harris said...

Glad to be of service, Six.

Doesn't take effect until 2030 either.

Still significant. This is Germany

The Chinese actually banned new auto plants that build cars with I.C.E.. The Story is in Chinese, maybe english papers picked it up by now.

I was reading recently that two-thirds of the US population is living in unhealthy air. One may not realize it because nanoparticles are undetectable by the senses.

Here's why:
China to no longer approve new gasoline-powered vehicle factories
http://chinaautoreview.com/pub/CARArticle.aspx?ID=13676

The move is part of China’s efforts to rein in new projects related to industries struggling with overcapacity such as the steel, coal and electrolytic aluminum sectors. It is also an indirect measure to boost the new energy vehicle sector, which has plans to produce and sell 5 million NEVs by 2020.

The auto industry, although not listed as an industry with “severe” overcapacity like the steel and coal industries, sits on a vehicle capacity of 31 million units with 6 million more still being added, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), much more than annual sales of about 25 million units. More than 200 vehicle and special-purpose vehicle manufacturers produce new energy vehicles but of the more than 4,000 NEV models that have been approved for production, only a quarter is actually in production.

I've heard there is increased morbitity and mortality due to exposure to particulates of certain sizes and shapes but I haven't read too much about the details of it. This is the sort of thing I worry gets brushed aside by climate obsession.

MRW, that puts a different spin on it for sure. I was beginning to wonder if there wasn't something agreed in Paris.

Ryan, I don't know where I posted something about this. If it was here and I'm repeating, I apologize.

But I learned long ago when I worked for Bell Labs and went to a conference where I talked to one of Apple's senior tech people (VP) to always check the supply chains and hard tech. Learn about the boring stuff. We were building a revolutionary chip set, one that didn't see production capacity until 15 years later in commerical products (early 2000s). I asked the Apple guy what they were developing. He said Of course I can't tell you. We talked about US intel black ops groups using apple laptops in an innovative way that made them absolutely bulletproof, even if the "enemy" captured them and grabbed all their stuff. There was no way anyone could crack the laptop. No way. It WAS ingenius.

So I pestered him. And he said, Look, if you want to know what we are doing keep your eye on hardware developmemts. (He meant the chips, the availability of resources, new processes.) They show up years and years before a product gets to market. He said you'll see where we're going if you concetrate on the beginning. He said, don't believe the computer magazines, they haven't got a clue what we're doing. (I was able to take advantage of discovering the Japanese were warehousing VHS tape machines waiting for the Beta/VHS tussle to sort itself out. Beta was the better tech, top quality, but VHS was the cheaper alternative. I bet on VHS, and won big.)

"Toxic air pollution particles found in human brains"

The country with the greatest number of Alzheimer deaths per capita is Finland followed by the US and Canada. Ever been to Finland? Pristine air. Canada's air-quality index is waaay better than ours.

One of the most air-polluted countries in the world, and the most populated per sq meter is India, but it ranks #165 out of 172 with Alzheimer deaths.

China is #53. Mexico is #72.
http://www.worldlifeexpectancy.com/cause-of-death/alzheimers-dementia/by-country/

Mexicans eat voluminous amounts of cilantro. The Indians can't make anything without coriander seeds (cilantro seed) it seems, espcially their daily bread. In 1995, some Swiss world health org discovered that the best and only antidote--better than any drug on the market--for heavy metals in the body and heavy metals poisoning is cilantro/coriander. As in off-the-charts more successful. Through the roof. Not a drug in the world that can compete, said this government study. At the time, I hated cilantro. I learned to love it.

What if this is diet-related? You can only grow archids in certain soil. What if we need certain foods to immunize ourselves to certain things, depending on our bodies. A visiting for-real East Indian yogi master taught me when I was 22 in Manhattan that if you know how to breathe properly, which he said everyone was doing wrong, you could work in the Lincoln Tunnel eight hours a day and the pollution wouldn't bother you. The cilli in your lungs are designed to slough off all pollutants. He said you could live to be over 100 even working in that smog for 80 years every day. And the air in the Lincoln Tunnel at rush hour is a deep taupe color. (Just for starters, he said if you're breathing in properly, your stomach pooches out like filling a garbage bag with every breath. But our vanity prevents us from doing it that way. And when breathing out, our stomach wall pushes the stomach back to the spine. There was a lot more to it, but I found it very relaxing.)

India’s Air Pollution Emergency
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/14/opinion/indias-air-pollution-emergency.html?_r=0

Last month, the Yale Environmental Performance Index ranked India 174th out of 178 countries on air pollution. According to India’s Central Pollution Control Board, in 2010, particulate matter in the air of 180 Indian cities was six times higher than World Health Organization standards. More people die of asthma in India than anywhere else in the world. Indoor air pollution, mostly from cooking fires, and outdoor air pollution are the third and fifth leading causes of death in India.

Dont know what the first leading cause is.

Ha. Actually, Matt, eating Trader Joe's pico de gallo is how I learned to love cilantro. I checked on the national diets of the bottom 10 countries in the worldwide Alzheimer's Death Rate Index, and every one of them uses cilantro/coriander in one of their signature national dishes, from the T-stans and K-stans to Surinam and Singapore. Anecdotal correlation to be sure, but interesting to note.

Matt Franko said...

Well I have always liked the flavor so this wont be a big problem for me....

I'm dead serious I'm going to get it from now on... I usually order just guacamole...

Matt, eating one sprig of the stuff a day will do it. According to the Swiss.
