This Syria situation still looks like one more domino to me leading ultimately back (thru Iranian proxy states) to Iran and payback for the Beirut US Marine Corps barracks bombing fomented by Iran in 1983 and other Iranian fomented terrorist acts over the years.
Iran is the ultimate target/objective of the GWOT imo.
The warriors still have a score to settle with Iran and Iran leadership is not currently helping itself in this regard; this will not end well for Iran unless Iran leadership does a 180 very quickly...
Well, GWB named the axis of evil — NK, Iran and Syria.
The Syrian regime is about to be taken down. The bit about using chemical weapons was a warning that they intend to make it very expensive by inflicting a lot of hurt. The Pentagon has duly noted it, and you can be sure that the NSC is buzzing about right now. It was a really dumb thing to say.
As far as Assad goes, like father, like son. His father did the same thing he is doing now, but his father was successful.
