Novosti Novorossii — Dugin on Sinai crash: "These are victims of war just like those in Donbass"

Alexander Dugin is to the right of Putin and the present ruling elite of Russia. He represents the actual opposition to those presently in power. The people that he speaks to and for are the one that are most likely to replace the Putin regime instead of the marginalized liberals with minuscule numbers and close to zero popular support that Washington fantasizes will take over Russia and bring back the Yeltsin years in the case of regime change.

The party represented by Dugin is actually quite similar to the US elite in some ways. It is nationalistic and imperialistic, traditional and elitist, and it combines idealism and realism in policy.  Compare "the Russian world" with "the American way," for example. They are different versions of exceptionalism that each claim God's favor. This is the actual counterpart that the US elite would be facing if regime change would come to pass in Russia.

The US elite represents this ideology as being fascistic, but it is a mirror image of US ideology with Russian characteristics. If the US elite keeps pushing and is successful, this is what it could get.

The American right represents Dugin as "Putin's brain," or at minimum, "having Putin's ear." (Do a search on "Alexander Dugin" for specimens.) This is not the case — yet. But emerging events could push Russia rightward. This is in fact the chief opposition force in Russia, with the Communist Party second, and Russian liberals not even on the political map.

Should the US plan to create enough dissent in Russia to force regime change, the result won't be a return to the Yeltsin years as US strategists seems to think. Rather, the result will be a wounded bear with nuclear weapons for claws and MIRVs for fangs — bent on making its antagonists pay a heavy enough price that they won't think of doing anything like that again for generations at least, if ever.

The other person of note in this geopolitical drama is Igor Girkin aka Igor Strelkov. "Strelkov" means "shooter." Someone like this would likely replace Putin in case of regime change. That is, someone that believes that liberalism is the geopolitical problem and who is willing to confront the Atlantic alliance militarily in order to destroy liberalism and establish traditionalism as the basis for world order. This view could get more traction in the present regime in order to preserve power, too.
