I am not sure that Ben Carson is actually "lying" even though he is not telling the truth. He doesn't seem to be able to distinguish truth from truthiness, which is a reason he is so popular with his constituency. They can't either. Some are just stupid people, but a lot of them suffer from a severe case of cognitive dissonance in which ideology trumps fact.

At the risk of painting with too broad a brush, I think you'd have to have severe cognitive dissonance to be 7th Day Adventist. Read up on their founder Ellen White, her epileptic seizures that she interpreted as signs from God, and her obsession with masturbation. Even as religious cults go, they're pretty far out there. The SDA's I know personally are nice people but not all there.
