Our closest relative, the peaceful Bonobo ape. They live in the deep part of the jungle where not many creatures can survive so there is not too much competition for food. The bonobos have evolved to be very sociable, friendly animals. They go around in small troops but enjoy meeting other troops of bonobos, often teeming up for a while. They look like chimps but they are a completely different species. They are very chilled out, like afternoon naps, and make lifetime friendships. It looks like a fantastic life.
Charles Darwin was right, we became the most successful creature on the planet because of our collective nature where we help each other, just like the bonobos do.
I thought this was a fantastic documentary.

Not entirely accurate. Different groups may engage in fierce fighting. But on the bright side females lead the society (please don't read anything into this) and conflicts are often settled through sex (now there is cultural template!).

Most people knowledgeable about anthropology and sociology would agree. Economists and politicians — clueless.
Economists and politicians cannot be led around through sex?
From the psychoanalytic and evolutionary POVs, biological activity can be reduced to food (survival) and sex (reproduction). The rest is an elaborate dance performed on that stage, the curtain of which is the birth and death of the organism.
With the exception of organisms that commit suicide or attempt to annihilate fellow organisms.

Ask Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich, Anthony Weiner, Donald Trump, Gary Hart, Mark Sanford...
