Branko Milanovic — How is the world ruled?

Saturday evening musings.

Interesting in that it ties together politics and economics, and not the way political economy does either.

I wrote a comment under the blog, but when I finished writing it, it said, comments are restricted to team members. So here it is.

Yep, that's how I always thought it was. It's the same in the media. All the good journalists, or honest ones, never got promoted, or never got the jobs in the first place, so now they all work for the independent media, and many work for RT. This happened to Chris Hedges and Robert Parry.

Most journalists have mortgages to pay, and families to look after, so they alter their reporting to fit in. They give the editors what they want, but the editors give what their proprietors want.

So, in the West we are free. No authoritarianism, except we sensor ourselves because we need a wage. Thus, the system can claim to be free, and that we don't live under an authoritarian state, and it can claim we live in a democracy, when we hardly do. It's an oligarchy, the rich rule.

But the rich are divided and there are different factions, it's not a central cabal. But their different actions seem to work in a collective way, that is, to undermine the poor. There seems to be a Soros crowd, and a Koch brothers crowd, and certainly a Zionist crowd, and they have different objectives, but all are nasty warmongers. There might be a Paul Singer crowd too, and others.

So, your conspiracy theory friend is wrong, but at the same time, all of the elite want neoliberalism. And they get what they want. It's controlled by money, and our wages. There are no guns, except many whistleblowers have gone to prison for telling the truth.
