"Volodymyr Zelenskiy warns Russian troops against shooting from nuclear plant; . . . Ukraine says it will target Russian soldiers who shoot at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant or use it as a base to shoot from, as both sides again accused the other of shelling the facility. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Saturday that Russian soldiers who shot at the plant or used it as cover would become a “special target”, Reuters reported."

So which is it? Are the Russians shooing at it or from it? There's a big difference between the two. Unless the Russians are fighting against each other, both can't be true. Could this be a terrible job translating, or are the Ukrainians got lazy with their lies?

This is nuclear terrorism from the Ukrainians. Shame on the west for supporting this.

A YouTube search shows this link. It seems the same as what jrbarch posted but has a number "4" at the end of the URL. Maybe he was doing a cut and paste and dropped the last digit.

WHAT IS LIFE? #40 Tim Freke and Prem Rawat

Ahmed Fares said...

“At the center of our being is a point of nothingness which is untouched by sin and by illusion, a point of pure truth, a point or spark which belongs entirely to God, which is never at our disposal, from which God disposes of our lives, which is inaccessible to the fantasies of our own mind or the brutalities of our own will. This little point of nothingness and of absolute poverty is the pure glory of God in us. It is so to speak His name written in us, as our poverty, as our indigence, as our dependence, as our sonship. It is like a pure diamond, blazing with the invisible light of heaven. It is in everybody, and if we could see it we would see these billions of points of light coming together in the face and blaze of a sun that would make all the darkness and cruelty of life vanish completely ... I have no program for this seeing. It is only given. But the gate of heaven is every- where.” — Thomas Merton, Conjectures of a Guilty Bystander

A bit from Thomas Merton's bio from Wikipedia:

Thomas Merton OCSO (January 31, 1915 – December 10, 1968) was an American Trappist monk, writer, theologian, mystic, poet, social activist and scholar of comparative religion.

Merton was first exposed to and became interested in Eastern religions when he read Aldous Huxley's Ends and Means in 1937, the year before his conversion to Catholicism. Throughout his life, he studied Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism, and Sufism in addition to his academic and monastic studies.

While Merton was not interested in what these traditions had to offer as doctrines and institutions, he was deeply interested in what each said of the depth of human experience. He believed that for the most part, Christianity had forsaken its mystical tradition in favor of Cartesian emphasis on "the reification of concepts, idolization of the reflexive consciousness, flight from being into verbalism, mathematics, and rationalization." Eastern traditions, for Merton, were mostly untainted by this type of thinking and thus had much to offer in terms of how to think of and understand oneself.

Merton was perhaps most interested in—and, of all of the Eastern traditions, wrote the most about—Zen. Having studied the Desert Fathers and other Christian mystics as part of his monastic vocation, Merton had a deep understanding of what it was those men sought and experienced in their seeking. He found many parallels between the language of these Christian mystics and the language of Zen philosophy.

Salman Rushdie is discovering what is life.

Salman Rushdie is making bank. It might cost him an eye and some severed nerves, though.

Salman Rushdie’s ‘The Satanic Verses’ leaps to top of Amazon bestseller lists

By the way, what happened to Lars Vilks? It's been over a year and still no information.

"This is being investigated like any other road accident. Because two policemen were involved, an investigation has been assigned to a special section of the prosecutor's office," a police spokesperson told news agency AFP, adding that there was no suspicion of foul play.

One eyewitness told the Aftonbladet newspaper that the car Vilks was thought to be in seemed to lose control and came over to his side of the motorway at high speed. The truck in front did not have time to swerve and then they collided with a loud bang at "incredible speed", he told the newspaper.

Also, Charlie Hebdo. They had a keypad entry system. Then this happened:

One of the magazine's cartoonists, Corinne Rey, described how she had just returned to the building after picking up her daughter from day care when the gunmen threatened her, forcing her to enter the code for the keypad entry to the newsroom on the second floor - where a weekly editorial meeting was taking place.

The men opened fire and killed the editor's police bodyguard, Franck Brinsolaro, before asking for editor Stephane Charbonnier, known as Charb, and other four cartoonists by name and killing them, along with three other editorial staff and a guest attending the meeting.

Witnesses said they had heard the gunmen shouting "We have avenged the Prophet Muhammad" and "God is Great" in Arabic while calling out the names of the journalists.

Not everything is a free speech issue.

I saw the Bill Maher clip before as I follow him on YouTube. I like him as a comedian, and he's also insightful on most issues. Being an atheist, he usually takes a dig at religion, mostly Islam, at least once on every show. I find that in no way offensive.

I have also watched videos by Sam Harris, who's an atheist. Again, I take no offense at what he believes.

Salman Rushdie, however, is a completely different issue. He attacks Islam in order to get attention as an author and sell books. Kind of like when Madonna is offensive to Christianity to sell music.

Also, the people who draw cartoons is not a free speech issue. It's hate disguised as free speech, and is meant to agitate the lower members of a society to commit violence against Muslims. That is their intention.

In Islam, agitators can be killed. It's in the Qur'an. As for atheists, they are protected by Islam. That's also in the Qur'an.

By the way, how's this for free speech:

On June 23, 2022, the Canadian government officially made Holocaust denialism a crime. This amendment to the Criminal Code was secretly tucked away in Bill C-19, Canada’s budget implementation act. Canadians hardly noticed it was there — we were too distracted by the budgetary provisions that we were promised would make life more affordable for us.

The following resolution has been added to Section 319 of the Criminal Code called ‘Wilful promotion of antisemitism.’

(2.‍1) Everyone who, by communicating statements, other than in private conversation, wilfully promotes antisemitism by condoning, denying or downplaying the Holocaust

(a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or
(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.

Canada’s not alone in implementing Holocaust denial legislation. Some 17 countries, including Austria, Belgium, Germany, Israel, and Ukraine, also have laws against Holocaust denial.

Jews pedaling atheism and deism, which clashes with both Islam and Hinduism, which are occasionalist religions, i.e., everything comes from God.

And now we have cancel culture. Feel free to express your free speech, but you might lose your job over it. Sorry, that's not free speech.

Peter Pan said...

Salman Rushdie is a free speech issue.

Ernst Zundel was a free speech issue in Canada. Now that the law is changed, it's no longer an issue.

France doesn't appear to have designated certain types of cartoons as hate speech. So it is an issue over there.

Jurisdictional issues aside, I see no reason to cater to the sensibilities of religious fanatics. They have the option of emigrating to a country where such offenses are banned.

Free speech is meant to protect you from the state, who will silence you for political reasons. I don't believe free speech is an antidote to culture wars.
