If Japan or Canada decided they wanted nukes, Washington wouldn't bat an eye.

A counter-factual statement isn't advocating for the ends. The argument structure goes like: Wind blow on feather, feather feels force of wind, feather floats into air. This is a classic counter-factual:

"
So, North Korea has nukes. Japan has a problem with that. I mean, they have a big problem with that. Maybe they would in fact be better off if they defend themselves from North Korea.

WALLACE: With nukes?

TRUMP: Including with nukes, yes, including with nukes.
"

Digby claims TRUMP said JAPAN SHOULD HAVE NUKES. He didn't.
Digby is either being dishonest or didn't read carefully. Many in the Democrat machine are doing what they do best, apparently. Distracting from their policy failure over the last half century. Democrats are supposedly worried about Trump's recklessness in war. That is flapping hysterical given Dems record, Obamas record, HRCs record.

Playing word games with Trump doesn't raise incomes, fix neolib war policies, restore social safety nets that the Dems destroyed as they tried to be more Republican than Republicans, or fix fckd trade agreements, or fix the mess left in Libya, Syria, Afghanistan or Iraq.
