Sam LeGrone — Admiral Warns: Russian Subs Waging Cold War-Style ‘Battle of the Atlantic’

More evidence that Cold War 2 is engaged. China has just announced something similar for the Pacific.
In an article for the U.S. Naval Institute’s June issue of Proceedings, Vice Adm. James Foggo III outlined a new era in U.S. and Russian submarine warfare he dubs “The Fourth Battle of the Atlantic.”…

Translation: increase funding for the Pentagon because Russian subs are scary.

After all, the Pentagon has to be prepared to fight a three front war, you know — in Europe (Russia), the Pacific (China), and the Middle East (Iran).

You omitted one front: outer space

We have never said there are no people there (Donbass, Ukraine) who are engaged in solving certain issues, including those in the military sphere, but this does not mean that there are regular Russian troops. You should feel the difference," Putin said at a press conference in Moscow on Thursday. 😉 Hard to argue with Putin's own words. He has me convinced those are Russian non regular Russian military units.
I guess Elliott Higgins reports were not complete fabrication of Western intelligence. Putin hood winked many who believed his earlier denials.

He has to be careful though not implicate Russia in MH17 with his new found openness. That would open Russia to a storm of problems...

It's your standard proxy war, here between Russia and the US. Neither side wishes to confront directly at this stage of the game.

Similar in Ssyria where the US is using R2P as mask for pursuing regime change wrt a traditional Russian ally.

The New Facade for Regime Change: a Brief History of Humanitarian Interventionism

In Syria the proxy war is more in the open because both US and Russia have military in uniform openly in play in addition to provisioning and advising the parties to the conflict, although they are avoiding confronting each other directly.

Tom, Trump is going to ally with Putin....

Not that this is the only thing that is motivating him but I wouldn't be surprised if it ever comes out he got f-ed in some deal he was in with Putin people with the Soros people on the other side over there....

It looks like Trump gets it that there is no going back to the Yeltsin years in Russia. HRC and the rest of US establishment are still set on it, along with regime change in China, too. Dangerous game they are playing, and apparently Trump thinks that a lot more can be gained by negotiation.

Another proxy war getting going in Libya.

After imposing his will on Syria, Putin is moving onto Libya

Ryan Harris said...

Well someone needs to bring stability to Libya. The Russians know how to do occupation properly. Whether the West, Europe, Russia, US, no one wants ISIS running Libya. And this way, Putin can get someone friendly in and re-encircle Europe from all sides.

Ukraine is not a proxy war for the Russians. The inhabitants of the breakaway republics are not third parties, they are ethnically Russian. Lets try to keep some perspective here.

The militaristic, autocratic, and often secular dictators which we have traditionally backed, have now seen, in the wake of the Arab Spring, just how squeamish and unreliable the West can be about their administrations.

Now that is rich. If American allies in the region feel so hard done by, then by all means join the Russians. The despotic Egyptian and Saudi regimes can go to Moscow for their next batch of arms shipments. It's a free market, after all.

Russia admits supporting the rebels and has said that it will not permit the Ukrainian government or nationalists to impose a solution on eastern Ukraine militarily. Ofc the Russian military is not fight in eastern Ukraine or the hostilities would have been over in short order, a mater of hours or days at the most, not weeks.

Both the US/NATO and Russia have been sending logistical support and advisers to the opposing sides.

Just-retired Sec Gen of NATO Rasmussen just took a job advising President Poroshenko. It doesn't get more obvious than this.
