Pepe Escobar talks about the lower classes who have no pensions and so can never retire. Crikey! What kept me going was the thought that one day I would retire. I hated work, not at the beginning of my career, it was a laugh then, good fun, but as neoliberalism took over, which increased workload, cut staff until I became the only engineer specializing in electrical and electronics, I became burnt out and ended up with fibromyalgia.
But those who are in the position I was in who are without a pension and know they can never retire, that's a complete nightmare, no wonder the suicidal rate is so high in the US amongst blue collar workers.
