"Secret cables and reports by the U.S., Saudi and Israeli intelligence agencies indicate that the moment Assad rejected the Qatari pipeline, military and intelligence planners quickly arrived at the consensus that fomenting a Sunni uprising in Syria to overthrow the uncooperative Bashar Assad was a feasible path to achieving the shared objective of completing the Qatar/Turkey gas link. In 2009, according to WikiLeaks, soon after Bashar Assad rejected the Qatar pipeline, the CIA began funding opposition groups in Syria.”— Robert F. We were going to overlap at some stage, Tom. A superb article.
Right.
Thank You Mike Whitney! I've been waiting for someone to write this article. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rank it an 11! However, it would be a 12 if it connected the dots that the Syrian civil war is inextricably interwoven with the conflict in Ukraine. The Saudi/Qatar/Turkish oil/gas pipeline was intended to displace Russian oil/gas pipelines running through Ukraine that supply the European market. Mark Twain once said: History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme." If so, does Syrian Civil War rhyme with Spanish Civil War (1936-39)?
