Gulf of Tonkin 2.0?

The missile tests are legal. In the sole case of Iran is a legal test of missiles considered provocative. These missiles are using the kind of technology that would have been phased out back in the seventies in any advanced industrialised country. So, yeah, really "provocative". But everything is "provocative" to the neo-fascists at Faux News.

What in fact happened was an Iranian ship came close to a US ship. Was the Iranian ship off the coast of Norfolk, Virginia? Now, that would be provocative and robust action may have been called for. No, an Iranian ship was off the coast of Iran. The provocative bastards! An Iranian ship off the coast of Iran, the evil motherfuckers! What was a US ship doing sailing there? Only one navy here is looking to provoke an incident, and it's clearly the Iranians by having ships sailing off their own coast.

The Straits of Hormuz are Iranian territorial waters.

Noah, exactly, not that you get that information from the news. At best they "report" that it's in international waters or some such crafty but technically true wording. The way it's reported is the Iranians launching an unprovoked hostile act against the innocent US Navy. There's only one navy in this instance that has the moral right to be in the Straits of Hormuz. The US Navy is looking for a Gulf of Tonkin 2.0, as Six has pointed out. And Trump's rhetoric has been bellicose towards Iran, but you'd expect that from a chickenhawk with "heel spurs".
