Gilbert Achcar has a point, but I have watched loads of videos by Putin and he always seems to be fairly reasonable and sensible up me, unlike our Western bellicose politicians. I think Oliver Stone captured the Putin the way he has always appeared to me, so I'm going with that for now. Although I don't get on with his conservativism or his lack of concern about climate change.
The West is very imperialistic, says, Gilbert Achcar, but so is Russia, he warns.
The New Politics site looks interesting.
One example of pro-Putin, pro-Assad “left-wing” propaganda combined with gutter journalism is the World Socialist Web Site (WSWS), run by a “Trotskyist” cult led by a political sicko named David North, which perpetuates a long worn-out tradition of inter-Trotskyist sectarian quarrels in fulfilling its role as apologist for Putin, Assad, and their friends. Another example is Grayzone, a website founded by a particularly versatile character named Max Blumenthal.

Gilbert Who? Godfrey?
WSWS is not pro-Putin or pro-Russian in the least. Their support for Assad or anti-imperialism in general, is to be expected. They have taken a position, based on their ideological beliefs.
WSWS consists mainly of editorials. The only journalism they do is interviewing workers and reporting on scientific discoveries. Their main purpose is to interpret current events from a Marxist perspective.
The WSWS is very anti China, so I thought that Gilbert Achcar criticism was not entirely warranted.
According to the WSWS, the good professor supported both the Libyan and Syrian interventions, and now wants to take action against Turkey:

Also, RT English has some very good programmes, like Going Underground, Max Keiser, Chris Hedges On Contact, and especially Renegade.inc. Yes, Putin wants to weaken the West, the Western brutal ruling elite, and so do many of us in the West.
Achcar just sees those programs as propaganda run by 'useful idiots, but these programs should be on our Western media where they would still undermine the Western ruing elite, as they should. That is democracy.
What kind of left winger is Achcar if he doesn't feel these programmes have merit in their own right?
I don't trust Achcar.
I guess he sees himself as a humanitarian.
I suppose the only difference between liberal interventionism and humanitarianism, is the death toll.
