Russian Central Bank Starts Buying Gold (when a central bank buys gold from commercial banks it creates deposit in those banks that are offset by adding gold as central bank asset. This increases the domestic currency in the private sector without incurring a fiscal deficit. Banks that receive the deposits from the central bank credit them to the accounts of the miners that supply the banks. This injects currency in to the private sector. This is different from QE in that the bonds the central bank purchases are financial assets, hence a change in term but not amount, whereas gold is a commodity.)
