John Feffer — The Banality of Haspel

Gina Haspel is just the type of status-quo choice that Donald Trump promised not to make. She’s not a swamp-drainer.
She’s a swamp thing.
Trump doesn't have what it takes to confront the US siloviki.

Six Democrats voted in favor of Pompeo leading the State Department, despite Pompeo’s warmongering and his support for torture.

How many Senate Democrats will vote to approve Gina Haspel today?

Each time Democrats do this, they show that they are identical with Republicans regarding everything that actually matters.

So much for the #Resistance.

The only thing that Democrats can offer the masses is political correctness, the war on white heterosexual non-Jewish men, and the Russia-gate hoax.

P.S.
To anyone who says that Gina Haspel should be confirmed because she’s a female, I say F**K YOU!

Evidently Haspel believes that she's entitled to be CIA director because, like Hillary, "it's her turn."

Most US people are not biased against torture ...

Matt, I am afraid you are correct and the Haspel nomination proves it.

It also proves that the US is rogue nation with no respect for international law, or even its own laws, which only apply to "the little people."

So goes empire.

I was going to say, so long to democracy, but the US was never a democracy in the first place. Like Rome it was a republic, and like Rome the republic has become an empire.

I am confused here. Didn't the MSNBC liberals and Dems adopt the CIA as part of the #Resistance? Damn you, Rachel Maddow!

Sad but true...

By John Kyriakou (btw, he's a Greek mama's boy like me):

The bottom line is that we really don’t know what will happen with Haspel. I’m not optimistic, though. This is an uphill fight. A clear majority of Americans—nearly two-thirds—support torture. It makes me sick even to say it. I fear that we’re fighting for nothing. Is this really the country we want to be?

My American cousin voted for Trump. He told me why he voted for him. I'd tell you guys why, but I'm embarrassed to repeat it because it's shameful -- and, you know, lest it reflects bad on me, what me being a relative and all :(

Did you see this, Tom?

Former 27-year CIA officer Ray McGovern just protested at the Senate confirmation hearing for torturer Gina Haspel. Police responded by violently brutalizing the 78-year-old whistleblower, throwing him to the ground and dislocating his arm.

I did see that. Par for the course.

Of course, that is nothing in comparison with what happens to "the little people," especially minorities. They are fortunate if they are not tortured and killed.
