Energy Challenge

Michael T. Klare, author of Rising Powers, Shrinking Planet: The New Geopolitics of Energy, has written an article about three trends that will impact energy policies for the entire planet: 1) political unrest in the Middle East 2) worldwide abandonment of nuclear power and 3) an ongoing Chinese drought forcing a turn from hydroelectric power and towards increasing use of hydrocarbons.

Not everyone is abandoning nuclear:

I am in favor of energy sources without destroying the ecological systems which are already under stress.
Solar needs to increase efficiency 2-3X and drop the price by 50-75%

to replace coal generation IV nuclear is the way to go.
