Populism is merely a somewhat confused but legitimate response to the feeling of abandonment experienced by the working classes in the advanced countries in the face of globalisation and the rise of inequalities. The same attitude which led to the rise of Hitler, and, above all, the underfunding of British industry and military (of course, the psychological effects of the war to end all wars had something to do with that).
