Dollar index has FALLEN under Covid restrictions reflecting previous real levels of imports more expensive in USD terms under global Covid policy response conditions... iow the fiscal response of foreign countries has been more significant than that of the US... this has resulted in reduced terms of trade in USD terms.., So the “trade deficit!” which is purely a USD financial result is ofc going to increase...
We are simply paying MORE for imports in USD terms under global covid restrictions....
