The Postil Magazine interviews Jacques Baud, a former colonel of the General Staff, ex-member of the Swiss strategic intelligence, and specialist on Eastern countries. He was trained in the American and British intelligence services. He has served as Policy Chief for United Nations Peace Operations

The Cognitive dissonance of Russians shelling a plant they are occupying is so loud it is making ears bleed.

It's so patently ridiculous, yet it is repeated like a mantra - and without a trace of irony.

We are run by people drunk on hysteria.

Postil Mag...

Look, these guys, Jack Baud whatever, Martyanov, Macgregor, Ritter, etc., can say Russia is winning until they're blue in the face (and they will), but Russia is clearly not winning. Maybe Ukraine is not winning either, but then nobody is winning. Russia can't advance, they are bogged down with no air force, fighting this war using a ridiculous WWI strategy, leaving Zelensky and Ukraine's leadership intact and winning the global P.R. war. These guys look as foolish as the "experts" in the West who say Ukraine is about to turn the tide. And actually, the Western analysts might be closer to the truth than the Jack Baud, Martyanov crowd.

And Lavrov still calls the West, "our partners." Russians are idiots.

“ On vacation in Spain right now and am shocked by how many Russian tourists are here. If democratic Europe is so awful and decadent as Putin claims, why are so many of his citizens here? Why aren’t they vacationing in the Urals? Or Belarus?”

Tom, shouldn’t these people be vacationing in Wang Dong China enjoying some overcast pollution weather with a bowl of dog brain soup? iow instead of the costa del sol with Jamón ibérico washed down with a Spanish Rosato?

What’s going on?

Neil, the Russians are taking a position in the nuke plant and firing from that position, ofc not expecting return fire…

So the Ukrainian people operating the plant ofc shut it down lest it become involved in the combat while operating…

Not hard to understand…

Mike, a stalemate in Ukraine is a win for Washington. They have already won the PR war for European sentiment, although that may change with the approach of winter.

As I said yesterday, lack of evidence, the fog of war, and an intense information war make it impossible to substantiate what really happened or is happening, let alone what is like to happen, other than in broad brush terms. Consequently, I have decided to cease posting on the war, as I have mostly on climate change and epidemics. These issues have been politicized, on one hand, and on the other hand, they lie beyond my area of expertise. So while I think that the are important I am going to cease posting on them here. Readers of MNE know the links that I favor and can set up their own feeds like I did.

Something similar has happened with MMT. There are few things worth linking to these days on MMT per se, and a lot of the application of MMT comes with a political slant, which, of course, is subjective.

Moreover, discussion on social media, such as it as is, is largely on Twitter, which I don't participate in actively since I don't find the format conducive to substantive discussion.

So I will only be posting things I think are of interest and have substance.

The fog of war is not so dense as to believe Ukraine is winning.
Or that Covid vaccines are "safe and effective".

The point of a blog is to assert your claims and then discuss/cuss/rant about them.
I'm here for the banter, not the sound of crickets.

Some of you guys take yourself so seriously, it's a wonder you participate on social media at all.

When you've been at it for over a decade, you get tired of the same discussions.

I mourn Toms' decision, but I respect it. I came to a similar conclusion about MMT discussions a good while ago. It has largely been captured by precisely the wrong people who seem to want to turn it into Modern Donkey Theory.

The latest G7 conclusion on Russian oil is so badly informed as to be laughable - after years of MMT advocation. It's still based upon the same fundamental misunderstanding of how sovereign currencies work.

“wrong people who seem to want to turn it into Modern Donkey Theory.”

What do you mean “the wrong people”?

The MMT academics themselves are signed up for partisan politics with Democrats and Labor…

It’s not like some external cohort of partisan Democrats are trying to hijack it or something…
