Norman Solomon — Danger in Democrats Demonizing Putin

With the Clintons’ corporate money machine floundering after a devastating election defeat, Democrats are desperate to find someone to blame and have dangerously settled on Vladimir Putin, writes Norman Solomon.
The Democrats have become unhinged over Trump and Putin and are looking like crazy people that are suffering from a severe case of paranoia along with rage and depression. The US "liberal media" is caught up in this mass hysteria. People like that bent on doing stupid stuff and not fit to govern.

Politically it is a suicidal strategy because by making Trump out to to Putler's stooge, they have lowered the bar almost to the ground. When Trump does anything that looks fairway smart, let alone scores a success, the Dems will look like Chicken Little screaming that the sky is falling. Dumb, dumb and dumber.

Oh, and it is also illiberal.

Unfortunately, Norman Solomon reveals himself as also a victim of this obsession, in feeling obliged to demonize Putin, too. His is just a milder case of this mass liberal OCD.

Putin fearmongering has become the new "deficit!" panic for the centre-left and merely a means of using the lowest hanging fruit against the GOP. Fear is just another means of persuasion. These idiots don't care if they start the next Cold War as long as it secures them votes in the 2018 midterm elections.

I think at this point it's mostly about distracting from their own incompetence and corruption.

It's not just DEMs, it's REPs, too - both are fronting the Deep State agenda of perpetual war.

I believe MOST of this Putin-bashing is a nasty combination of fear and impotence. Putin is an amazing fellow and easily the best Russian leader since at least Peter the Great. The Russians have PLENTY of experience with shit leadership so when someone like Putin comes along, they respond to the difference. He could win all elections until he dies. He has lavish approval ratings—he may be the most popular politician on earth. The people who think just a few more $ to the NED will bring down his government are quite insane. So not only can Putin thumb his nose at the neocon plotters, he drives them further insane because there is nothing they can do about it.

He is also an excellent example of what happens when someone in the old USSR educational system religiously did his homework. Compared to the dim bulbs we have in USA politics, he so outclasses them intellectually, he almost seems like he is from a different planet. And he sort of is. Bright guy, highly motivated, with a hyper-elite education.

In a saner world, we would have leadership that recognizes the opportunity to collaborate with such a gifted leader to solve some crazy-difficult problems. If we cannot get along with the best leadership Russia has to offer since Peter the Great, perhaps its our fault and not his.

Agree, Jonathan. I would say that there is also some jealousy operative but the US leadership isn't bright enough to know that they are hopelessly outclassed. Loooosers!

Well said Jonathan. Tom, I think there is also envy on the part of US leadership because he is very obviously his own man. He is not merely a figurehead, a compromised puppet taking orders from the Masters of the Universe. They hate him for his agency.
