Another good start. Think big.

I think President-elect Trump needs to find one or perhaps two policies that have the potential to be extremely popular with the majority of Americans. Perhaps "insurance for everybody" might be one of those.

He is going to need a majority of the people on his side once the deep state starts the impeachment process.

So universal Trumpcare is what this is looking like. He'll negotiate with a bunch of hospitals and insurance companies to get the premiums down and then get it through Congress. He better deliver BIG LEAGUE on this if he wants to remain in power.

Notice he says 'insurance' for everybody, not 'healthcare' for everybody...

If he doesnt get the premiums down and substantially, then it will just be ACA redux...

He has to get a big league discount...

Then there are the Peterson morons to contend with on the budget projections and they use their own type of moron accounting...

Here:

"The plan, he said, would include "lower numbers, much lower deductibles," without elaborating.

“We’re going to have insurance for everybody,” Trump said. “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.”

Looks like he is relying on YUGE volume discounts.... this remains to be seen... maybe...

Have to get all the illegal aliens paying too..

In what way is this significantly different to Obummercare?

I doubt the hardcore Trumpers would care what he passes in terms of reform as long as that border wall is built. As I said before, single-issue voters. Trump could be Obummer 2.0 but if he delivers on that one issue alone he'll have support.

Health care is not a left/right issue - pretty much everybody who isn't raping the system for profit hates it. Those profits are of course distributed to the 500 or so 'public servants' who create the nation's laws.

In other words the only thing that will change here is the hype. At this point my only hope is in living long enough to get Medicare and hoping they haven't privatized it by then. The ACA is the court-tested model for that, and for privatizing social security as well.

Incrementalism doesn't work. But neither did the steering mechanism of the Titanic.

"Insurance for everyone" sounds like... socialized medicine!

"In what way is this significantly different to Obummercare?"

Larger actuarial pools... and volume purchases from vendors...

That is about all I can see for now... dont know about the illegals either...

imo ACA was too expensive for the individual people that wanted to pay...

There will be losers. There always are. Not that I have a problem with this.

Do we think Trump really has the will reduce profits? Wonder what kind of support he'll find in Congress. Healthcare is going to be difficult to "negotiate." In many locations, the number of providers is about 1 or 2. Is he just talking about price-setting? Seems so un-Republican, but if they'll go along... Seems doubtful.

Late 90's I paid $135/mo with $10 copay and no deductible....

Today, $475/mo with $20 copays and $6k max out of pocket...

Wa happed?

You got illegals invading, Chinese zombies going all zombie, govt/banks raising prices on property, OPEC extracting $100/bbl rent, many war wounded, etc....

It all adds up... to higher prices...

"Trump really has the will reduce profits?"

they will make even MORE munnie...

Bob: '"Insurance for everyone" sounds like... socialized medicine!'

It would also make US-based companies more competitive. That's another reason to have socialised medicine, or rather, given that the US already has a system of partial socialised medicine in Medicare and Medicaid, what you would then have is universal socialised medicine, which is what I believe most Americans want. Private health care wouldn't disappear. For those who can afford and want it, just like private healthcare still exists in all the countries that have a national healthcare system. The the new national healthcare system would also bring down costs in private health care.

Exactly. I made this very clear when I was arguing for single-payer to those conservatives I had a debate with and how current Medicare/Medicaid programs would be the model for expanding them so that everyone who wants these programs can qualify, and anyone who doesn't want it doesn't have to opt in and can choose private alternatives. It's sort of like how the Job Guarantee would provide an incentive for private businesses to try to compete in terms of offering better wages and benefits to pull those workers out of the JG jobs. It's a win-win for everyone, but with all the propaganda out there, to the ideologues, any kind of government program is suddenly now far-left socialism or communism to them. In order to really get single-payer into law, you might need to form coalitions with the more moderate conservatives and GOP people who mainly don't want to have to pay higher taxes but don't mind these programs generally as long as its not hurting their wallet when it comes time to file taxes.
