‘I’m profoundly sad, I feel guilty’: scientists reveal personal fears about the climate crisis

I've been debating with the deniers for three weeks now on twitter and its been pretty heated at times. Some of these deniers are very clued to up on 'denial science' so it's been tough going and I'm having to learn all about the Medieval Warm Period and the Little Ice Age. But I'm not on my own this time and some very clued up people are on my side.

The deniers call us Alarmists,  but many adolescents now suffer from Climate Change Anxiety Disorder and many of the climatologists themselves are getting depressed about climate change.

Some of the deniers said I was being abusive when I called them deniers, even though they call us Alarmists, so I started calling them septics for a while, but on the whole I try to remain civil.

Anyway, the Guardian printed some of the letters of concerned and climatologists. It's quite depressing.

Prof Will Steffen, Australian National University

I’m angry because the lack of effective action on climate change, despite the wealth not only of scientific information but also of solutions to reduce emissions, has now created a climate emergency.
The students are right. Their future is now being threatening by the greed of the wealthy fossil fuel elite, the lies of the Murdoch press, and the weakness of our political leaders. These people have no right to destroy my daughter’s future and that of her generation.

Prof Katrin Meissner

How do I feel about it? I am still very worried. I am also profoundly sad. I am probably sadder than I was five years ago.
I feel powerless and, to a certain extent, guilty. I feel like I have failed my duty as a citizen and as a mother because I was not able to communicate the urgency of the situation well enough to trigger meaningful action in time.

What we are doing right now is an uncontrolled, risky experiment with the planet we live on.

‘I’m profoundly sad, I feel guilty’: scientists reveal personal fears about the climate crisis

A few days back we seemed to be winning the debate with the deniers, but then a real nasty lot turned up who were really spooky and scary, so I called them, The Zombie Climate Change Denial Back-up Squad, and put out the photo below. Well, you've got to have some fun, haven't you?.
