OWS Demand — Regime Change

Interesting piece. But for me it ends on a lame note with its soggy talk of "left-right hybrids" and and agenda that seems limited to financial sector reformism. That's it? That's the "regime change"?

The reason we are governed by a plutocracy in this country isn't just the fault of a few weak financial sector regulations. The war against the plutocracy has been going on for a very long time. We made serious progress against in during the FDR administration and immediately afterward, but most of the progress has been rolled back during the neoliberal era.

Incomes and income equality are taking a pounding in the United States. That's a direct result of the inherently destabilizing tendencies of neoliberal, laissez faire capitalism - Glass-Steagall or no Glass-Steagal, corporate personhood or no corporate personhood.

Building a just and fair society, with deep and broad sustained prosperity is hard work, and it takes a persistently engaged democratic public administering an activist fiscal policy and public sector. You can't just get rid of a few bad laws and expect the invisible hand to take care of the rest.

These guys need to read more Minsky, Marx, Lerner and Keynes - along with Mosler, Mitchell and Wray.
